Pedro Ivo Souza is an experienced Telecommunications Engineer and Patent Specialist currently based at Licks Attorneys’ Rio de Janeiro office. Since 2016, he has actively participated in prosecuting patent applications and patents before the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BRPTO), specializing in the fields of Telecommunications, Electronics, and Mechanical Engineering. In his role, Mr. Souza conducts searches and analyzes specifications and claims to propose amendments that comply with the specific requirements of the Brazilian patent system. Additionally, he provides assessments and reports on technical opinions issued by the BRPTO, preparing briefs to comply with or challenge these opinions, while also drafting patents and performing Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) analyses. Mr. Souza possesses in-depth knowledge of the Brazilian Patent Statute, normative instructions, examination guidelines issued by the Brazilian PTO, as well as the major intellectual property treaties.
