Phase II of Brazilian PPH program with the JPO on its way

The BRPTO and the JPO signed, on January 16, 2019 in Tokyo, Japan, the renovation of the PPH Pilot program between both Offices. The new phase of the program will be in force for two years starting from April 2019 and up to 200 applications shall be accepted into it, being limited to one application per applicant per month.

The Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BRPTO) and the Japan Patent Office (JPO) formalized this Wednesday 16th January in Tokyo the agreement to renew the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) pilot program between Brazil and Japan. Liane Lage, Director of Patents, Computer programs and Topographies of Integrated circuits of the INPI, and Susumu Iwasaki, Director of JPO’s Third Division of Patents (Chemistry and Life and Material Sciences) were present during the ceremony.

Federal Agencies will have until March to create anti-corruption programs

The measure was published by the Comptroller General of the Union – CGU, as Resolution # n. 57/2019, amending Resolution # n. 1.089/2018, which established the Federal government’s Integrity programs.

Under strong security, Jair Bolsonaro took office as Brazil’s President on January 1st. The inauguration was organized in four stages: it began in the afternoon with an ecumenical cult in the Cathedral of Brasilia. From there, Bolsonaro paraded next to the first lady, Michelle Bolsonaro, in a vehicle that took him to the National Congress, where he took office as president and stated that he wants to free Brazil from corruption, crime and economic mismanagement. Soon after, he headed to the Planalto Palace, the executive branch’s head office, and, in the evening, he participated in a cocktail held in the Itamaraty Palace, the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Brazil creates a national data protection authority and a national policy for the security of information at the federal administration

The last few days of Brazilian President Michel Temer’s term at the office brought relevant news with regard to privacy and data protection matters. On Dec. 27, Temer enacted Provisional Measure #869/2018, which creates the National Protection Data Authority (NPDA), a regulatory body for data treatment activities. On Dec. 26, the President also enacted Decree #9.637/2018, which establishes a National Policy for the Security of Information to be adopted by the federal administration, aiming to secure the integrity, confidentiality and authenticity of the information at the federal level.
